Ropeadope Presents: Snarky Puppy

Courtesy of John Novotny:

The new release entitled, “Tell Your Friends”  is Snarky Puppy’s fourth studio album, however the vision behind it is quite unlike that of most studio albums recorded before. The inspiration for this album spawned from the idea that it ispossible to play a concert in a recording studio. “Tell Your Friends”, is just that: a concert CD/DVD recorded and filmed on location at the legendary Dockside Studio in front of fans from all across the continent. They came from Texas,Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, New York, Arizona, Michigan and even Quebec to see Snarky Puppy tear it up for one night in the swamps of Louisiana. Of course itwasn’t all smooth sailing but despite setbacks major and minor, the evening unfolded beautifully.Bassist Michael League described it best when he said, “The only way I canexplain it is that we have wonderful friends. Friends who drove in from all overthe continent to be a part of something unique, and perhaps a little bit insane. Friends who scurried around half of Acadiana running errands for us at all hoursof the day and night to make sure we had what we needed when we needed it. Friends who love music and will do anything to see it come to life”.

TruStatement Weekend Oneonta University

(photo : Gubi)

The entire TruStatement camp traveled through the sticks of upstate New York, all the way to a small college town known as Oneonta, NY with an army of emcees, musicians, and Full Sail University grads in the hopes of dedicating an entire weekend to recordings sessions, photo shoots, video shoots, rehearsals, live shows, and a ton of partying. Every minute of this 3 day adventure was shot on cell phones, HD video cameras, and HQ photography equipment, providing a wide variety of visual  encounters with every member of the TruStatement camp. These images, videos, tweets, and status updates were consolidated onto one website, created by the behind the media team at TruStatement. (http://www.flavors.me/trustatement)

The final project will be divided into two separate releases. The first release will be a movie trailer including all cell phone videos and photos from the weekend. The official video will serve as an HD documentation of the 3 day adventure with TruStatement Entertainment in Oneonta, NY. Trust us… the video will be full of emcee performances, impromptu freestyle sessions, candid interviews, and late nights full of heavy partying.

J Dilla – “Oxtopus Boom Boom” (free download)

Free Dilla, all day…

J Dilla – Oxtopus Boom Boom

Suff Daddy – Refills

Another Suff Daddy record I came across on his bandcamp page. This project remixes tons of classic vocal samples with that Suff Daddy instrumental twist. This dude still has that micro-korg, fender rhodes vibe, massive kicks and snares, and undeniable sub sonic sounds that exist in his other records. Be sure to sample this album!

Miles Bonny – How I Got Over Math (Roots Remix/Refix)

Suff Daddy feat. Miles Bonny – “5 O’Clock Suff”

Dope video filmed somewhere in a tiny underground bar in Germany called Hole Sweet Hole. Probably one of the most laid back videos and songs I have heard in a long time. Miles Bonny is becoming a new favorite singer/songwriter of mine, and his beat maker, Suff Daddy, is equally as good. Check out their label Melting Pot Music for more free music and videos!

Miles Bonny – Incense and Wine (Free Download)

Miles Bonny honestly cares about the world’s potential. This is publicly expressed through a wide variety of communication forms. As a recording musician and DJ, Miles seeks to create atmospheres which encourage an awareness of life’s potential. When not working on music, he pursues a comprehensive understanding of the systems that manage our lives; manifested through professional social work and information dissemination.
