Getting noticed in many industries can be a tough gig. Sometimes, it takes a daring move to get noticed, and even then it could go either way. You could get noticed, or in this case, stabbed by some crazy on the NYC subway.

Atomic Tom (myspace link) decided it was worth the risk, and took to the subway armed with nothing but iPhones and a song. The outcome is actually quite great. They play “Take Me Out,” the subway riders cheer at the end, and they demonstrate, quite effectively, that the iPhone really can do anything these days.

500 Million and counting...

Mark Zuckerberg is a semi-genius when it comes to computers, not so much when it comes to women. When his girlfriend dumps him, Mark decides to get some revenge on her and all women by creating a website called Facemash which compares all the women at Harvard against each other. This little prank catches the eye of fellow students Cameron & Tyler Winklevoss and Divya Narendra who recruit Mark to create a web site that they came up with. It would be called Harvard Connect and be exclusive for the Harvard community and show peoples pictures, information, etc. Mark agrees but immediately turns around to his best friend Eduardo, asking for money for his own idea. For the next 6 weeks goes into hiding and when he emerges, he has created Facebook. Needless to say, when the Winklevoss’s and Narendra find out, they accuse him of stealing. Meanwhile Mark and his new creation take on a life of their own, and soon Mark gets into the crosshairs of famed Napster creator, Sean Parker who leads Mark into a whole new lifestyle. Soon Mark must decide between getting to the top or sticking with his friends.

Jay-Z is making a pivotal move and appearing alongside philanthropist Warren Buffet on the cover of Forbes magazine.

The two business men are featured as part of the “Forbes 400” issue, listing the 400 richest people in America.

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates ranks #1 on the list with an estimated worth of $54 billion while Buffet; the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, ranks #2 with a reported wealth of $45 billion.

Although the Roc Nation head didn’t quite make the list of the 400 richest with a total worth of $450 million, Forbes predicts that he’ll be one of 15 people worth a billion dollars by 2015.

Forbes added Jay to their elite “Billionaires In The Making” list alongside Facebook President Sean Parker ($920 million), Zynga founder Mark Pincus ($850 million) , television/ movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer ($850 million), Jerry Seinfield ($800 million), Tiger Woods ($500 million) and Tyler Perry ($350 million).

In addition to landing the cover, Jay gave an in depth interview with Forbes founder Steve Forbes alongside Buffet.

According to Jay, one of the “greatest tricks in music” is convincing artist that there’s no money in their profession.

“That was the greatest trick in music that people ever pulled off, to convince artists that you can’t be an artist and make money…I think the people that were making the millions said that. It was almost shameful, especially in rock ‘n’ roll .”

Jay also says feared his latest project The Blueprint III would leak after losing an Ipod on an airplane.

According to Jay while in the process of buying back his album from his old Def Jam home, he lost an mp3 player full of BP3 tracks and was nervous for months that the tracks would hit the net.

“The year I went over to create Roc Nation with Live Nation, I still had one album left to make with Def Jam. L.A. Reid, the chairman of Def Jam at the time, did a great thing for me. He allowed me to walk in and have the conversation with [chairman of parent company Universal Music Group] Doug Morris. We had a fantastic relationship. So it was very cool. I bought my last album back.

What people don’t know is the day before I flew from Hawaii, where I was doing some recording and put it on an iPod. I had on jogging pants, and my iPod, with all the music I recorded, was missing. It was on the plane somewhere. I had to walk into Doug’s office the next day and buy an album back that might leak the next day. Every day I would wake up and check all the Internet places and everywhere. I was like that for three months.”

Erin Barra’s sound draws from a diverse range of musical influences that creates a distinctive mix of Pop, Rock and Soul with splashes of Reggae. Heavy on the lyrical content she infuses both substance and consciousness into her songwriting with penetrating skill and a unique instrumental perspective.

Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Erin began her musical training on the piano bench at the tender age of 4. She has composed and performed her own music throughout her adolescence beginning with string quartets and even a fully produced Opera titled ‘Illusions’ that toured high schools on the West Coast through Utah Opera’s education program. She solidified her training and craft with a degree in songwriting from the Berklee College of Music in Boston. While at Berklee she was discovered by legendary songwriter John Oates, of Hall and Oates and together the two penned the song ‘Waiting’ for Barra’s first release in 2007. Over the years, Erin has had the opportunity to write and work with industry notables and Grammy award winning artists, engineers and producers.

“When I first met Erin Barra at Berklee… I sensed she had something special. After our first writing session together, my instincts were confirmed. She is an “old soul” musician with a very modern songwriting sensibility. She is the type of artist who can have a long career in the music business. John Oates of Hall and Oates.

After making the move to New York in 2007 Erin recorded her first album, Soul Revolutions and immediately dove into the performance circuit; having appeared on New York stages of SOB’s, Solomon’s Porch, The Bitter End, The Bowery Poetry Club, Rockwood Music Hall, The Canal Room and The Cutting Room. Her presence is also felt on stages throughout the North-East and Rocky Mountain Regions. Whether she is performing with her band, in trio form, or solo, her performances are simultaneously intimate and electric. Playing a Hohner Melodica as one of the cornerstones of her live set along with an infectious energy, she creates something between a rock show and a storytelling.

Erin channels the modern day wattage of Alicia Keys with the substance of Roberta Flack, inspired largely from a classic range of legendary performers such as Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raiit, Bob Marley, Jill Scott, Michael Jackson and Hall and Oates.

The new release entitled, “Tell Your Friends” is Snarky Puppy’s fourth studio album, however the vision behind it is quite unlike that of most studio albums recorded before. The inspiration for this album spawned from the idea that it ispossible to play a concert in a recording studio. “Tell Your Friends”, is just that: a concert CD/DVD recorded and filmed on location at the legendary Dockside Studio in front of fans from all across the continent. They came from Texas,Tennessee, Alabama, Virginia, New York, Arizona, Michigan and even Quebec to see Snarky Puppy tear it up for one night in the swamps of Louisiana. Of course itwasn’t all smooth sailing but despite setbacks major and minor, the evening unfolded beautifully.Bassist Michael League described it best when he said, “The only way I canexplain it is that we have wonderful friends. Friends who drove in from all overthe continent to be a part of something unique, and perhaps a little bit insane. Friends who scurried around half of Acadiana running errands for us at all hoursof the day and night to make sure we had what we needed when we needed it. Friends who love music and will do anything to see it come to life”.
